If Your Belongings Go To Storage

When the move out date and the move in date don’t line up with the potential delivery date, storage might be the answer. The Military automatically authorizes your belongings to be stored at a destination warehouse up to 90 days.

Things to consider if you’re storing your belongings

• As stated above your Military agency authorizes storage up to 90 days.
• If you need to remain in storage beyond the initial 90 days, it is your responsibility to contact your destination Traffic Management Office (TMO) to see if they will extend your storage time. They could extend your time another 30, 60 or 90 days. The form they will ask you to submit is the DD1857 military form if you are needing an extension.
• If you still need to remain in storage beyond your authorized time, the cost of storage will be at your expense.
• The Military will not authorize storage at an air-conditioned storage facility.
• There is an extra charge to access your goods once your belongings are placed into the warehouse so plan accordingly. Depending on what the Military states, this extra charge may be at your expense.
• When you are ready to receive your belongings, contact your Planes Relocation Counselor to request your delivery out date. Please try to give us two (2) weeks advance notice of the requested delivery out of storage date.

Preparing for your goods to be stored

• Appliances must be clean; any moisture or dried on foods may cause mold, which would not be covered under the transit policy.
• Nothing perishable can be stored – including plants.
• Do not store jewelry, personal/original documents, records that you may need during the storage period (tax, medical, school records).
